Betti Smith is volunteering in Bhutan this summer...Here is an album of phots from there
From Mickey Blackwell:
My recent “Journey to the Land of the Bible” was the trip of a lifetime. I first entertained the thought of going to the Holy Land while in seminary during the summer of 1968. That trip, had it taken place, would have been far more limited that the one I eventually took 42 years later, because the ’68 jaunt would have been to participate in an archaeological dig. I’m glad I waited! I knew that 2010 would likely be my last chance to go with one of my former professors as well as with a number of good friends, so I jumped at the chance. Israel is an ancient crossroads, the major trade route of the Fertile Crescent , the land of three great Monotheistic Faiths, and an exotic place that is an important part of the “who” and “how” we are today.
For me, the journey was intellectual, spiritual, and emotional. I have included only a few pictures and a few of the videos I shot. I just want to give you an overview of my pilgrimage. Our roots are in The Holy Land. Israel is our spiritual home…our spiritual background. A trip to the high and holy sites makes the Bible come alive. We see what it means to “go up to Jerusalem ,” what it means “to be in the wilderness,” what it means to be in beautiful verdant and green Galilee . I found myself surrounded by the roots of my faith, surrounded by people who, in some cases, seemed to have stepped directly from the pages of the Old and New Testaments. I found myself in the holy places which the three great religious which are in Jerusalem —Christian, Jewish, Muslim—come together. Jerusalem is the place the Greek Orthodox priests like to say is the Navel of the World. It certainly is the Navel of the Spiritual World we know.
Click on the link below to view a variety of photos and videos from my journey. When you click on each thumbnail you can view a larger version of the photo or watch a short video. The videos follow the pictures.
I hope you enjoy a brief view of what I encountered from dawn to dusk in my recent pilgrimage to the Land of the Bible. Shalom!

Classmates:
Remember we asked for your reservation form and check to be returned by mail by June 15. Of course, you know we'll certainly accept it after that date, but if you know now that you're coming and have the money, why not send it in? You who have come to past reunions know that we compile your profiles & questionnaire answers to prepare & publish booklets that are given to each classmate attending. It takes time to do so. If you are late returning your forms and questionnaires, you run the risk of your data not appearing in the booklet.

Notice: We have some donated money designated for classmates who may need financial assistance with the reunion reservation fee. If you need this help, or know any classmate that does, please let me know. This will be handled very discreetly. It would be very sad for a classmate to miss this special reunion for this reason. These are tough times in our country and many of us are feeling the effects of the economy.
