Peggy Derreberry Smith, 78, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at her residence.

She was born August 9, 1942 in Gaston Co., NC, daughter of the late David Alex Derreberry, Sr. and Lassie Postell Derreberry.

Peggy will be remembered for her love of God and gained her strength through prayer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Smith, Sr.; and siblings, Ray Derreberry, Ralph Derreberry and Lillian D. Voyles.

She is survived by her sons, James Smith Jr. (Donna Rose) and Robert Smith (Kristie Anderson-Smith); daughter, Melissa Ledford (David); brothers, Terry Derreberry (Sara), Steve Derreberry and David Derreberry (Joyce); sister, Virginia Falls; niece, Glenda Voyles; grandchildren, Vanessa Fuller (Mark), Shelby Rodriquez (Jesse), Hailey Murray (Dylan), Tanner Smith, Tiffany Smith, and Eric Smith; and great-grandchildren, Chase Bingham, Ayden Bingham, Gavin Murray, Devon Bingham (Haley), J.J. Rodriquez and Isabelle Rodriquez, she is due in just a few weeks.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in consideration of health and safety.
