Obituary

Claude "Moose" Rogers Jr., 83, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Claude, affectionately known as "Moose," was born in Gastonia, N.C., to the late Claude Sr. and Lala Margaret Garren Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Rogers Waldroop, brother-in-law Jim Clemmer, and sister-in-law Wanda Dalrymple.

Moose led a life of service to his country, community, and his family. Moose attended Western Carolina University and assisted with the Football and Basketball teams. After graduating, he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. After leaving the military, he became an educator. Education was his calling from the Lord, and he lived out this passion for 33 years as a teacher, school administrator, and coach. Moose took care of and loved all of "his kids" at school but had a strong affection for special needs children, personally requesting that the first exceptional children's classroom in Macon County be at his school. Moose loved his church family deeply and served as a Deacon at Cartoogechaye Baptist Church for many years. He will be remembered for his wit, his infectious laugh, big hugs, compassion, and encouraging spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneta "Hoppy" Hopkins Rogers; their two children, Tres Rogers and Cory Rogers; and his brother-in-law, Clifford Waldroop. Also surviving; sister-in-law Mary "Ernie" Clemmer, brother-in-law, Steve Hopkins(Patsy), and sister-in-law, Carolyn Shope(Wade)

Paw Paw's pride and joy were his six grandchildren, Preston Rogers (Caroline), Hunter Rogers, Brooklyn Rogers, Bryce Rogers, Alexander Rogers, and Storie Ann Rogers.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the memorial service at Macon Funeral Home from 2–4p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Cartoogechaye Baptist Church.

Claude---or Moose as he was known in his home county of Macon---was a man of fierce determination and deep and abiding Faith. As a Baptist who supported the ministry that I headed for 40 years. I visited with him many times in his home church. And like some of you, I talked with him over the last couple of years  several times on the phone. He loved Ashley High School , he loved young people, and he loved being "strong for the Lord."  His light burns brightly in the lives he touched (and blessed.)  ...Mickey Blackwell
