Marilyn was a former member, choir member and secretary of Providence Baptist Church of Gastonia. She was also a member of Garden City Baptist Church in Garden City, SC. Marilyn spent most of her life in Gastonia, NC and Surfside Beach, SC. where she raised her two children. She was known as "Nonnie" to her grandchildren. Marilyn had a smile that could light up any room, and her smile was contagious. Her love for the Lord was passed down through generations, and she has left a legacy of godliness to her children and grandchildren. 

Marilyn's daughter, Meredith, said she was the "Iron Chef of Southern cuisine".
