BELMONT - Martha Rebecca Summey "Becky" Babington, 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 30, 2014, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

 

She was surrounded in love by her family. Becky was born in Gastonia on Aug. 25, 1942, to Elizabeth Lutz Summey and the late Erskine Thomas Summey Sr.

 

Becky was a graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School. She was employed by Holsum Bakery, Sunbeam Bakery (Atlanta, GA), Nolen Concrete Company, Genuine Auto Parts, Summey Business Services, an of-ficer in Stewart Construction Company, and a partner in B&S Rentals. She was a lifelong member of East Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. G.A. and Acteens leader, Bible drill train-er/coordinator, and an active committee member. Becky touched many peoples' lives, and had a special heart for working with children and youth.

 

Becky was a Christian lady who walked faithfully with the Lord, serving others with an unselfish heart. She was devoted to her family and was very happy spending time with them. Becky also enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends at her home on the lake. She was blessed with a strong spiritual gift of giving. Becky truly modeled her life following the teachings of the Lord Jesus in Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

 

In addition to her father, Becky is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jon Robert Babington; brother, Erskine Summey Jr.; nieces, Dawn Summey and Nicole Walker.

 

Becky is survived by, in addition to her mother, her sister and brother-in-law, Drucilla and Jim Harris of Gastonia; brother and sister-in-law, Loyd and Kathie Summey of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Judy Summey of Gastonia; nieces and spouses, Stephanie and Kevin Bowman of Belmont, Jill and John Warren of Gastonia, and Julie Harris of Greenville; great-niece, Jennifer Summey of Gastonia; great-nephews, Bryant Bowman, Benjamin Bowman and William Bowman, all of Belmont, and Andrew Warren of Gastonia. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

 

Family and friends of Becky Babington are invited to attend her visitation beginning at 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at East Baptist Church with her funeral service to immediately follow in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Tim Parker will officiate.

 

Burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to East Baptist Church, 114 N. Church Street, Gastonia, NC 28054.
