I attended Flint Groves Jr. High with classmates
Tish Young, Kay Best, Francis Hembree, Janice
Wilson, Alice Robinson to name a few. I played basketball as a forward and we had a good team. I remember Francis Hembree had a really bad sprained ankle during our last year of play. Janice Wilson and I usually tied for high scorer.

Loved to go to the student center at lunch time
especially when it was initiation for the boys and
girls club. Shagging was the thing and still is. We loved to go from the Beacon to the Dog N Suds to R.O.'S and have a Clarinet and talk to friends. Summer time at the beach, shagging the evening away. Meeting at Betty Cannon's with Dickie Craig and friends to shag. We had great times under Mr. Riddle turning out the class paper FINE YARNS; we turned out 10 copies each year to the student body.

Married Ralph Hale in 1960; he was drafted in 1962 and after basic training he was sent to Fort Hood, Texas. We lived there until his discharge in 1964. We lived in Texas when President Kennedy was killed. I was supposed to go to Dallas that day to see President Kennedy, but Ralph came home from Germany the day before, from Operation Big Lift maneuvers. We did go to Dallas a couple of weeks later to get pictures of the area.
Ralph retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools
after 32 years as Purchasing Agent for Child Nutrition, and I retired from Summey Bldg. Systems, HR Specialist. We both retired in 1995 and 1996. I am a Master Gardener and volunteer for The Belk Blumenthal Theater in Charlotte. Ralph plays golf; we are both active in our church Redeemer Lutheran and love to travel. We are planning a cruise in January to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversay which was in April.
