Memories Before High School (neighborhood, elementary & jr high, etc.):

Growing up in Shelby, NC, moving to Gastonia in 1955, going to Victory School for 8th and 9th grades, and making lots of friends. Making money caddying at Municipal Golf Course, mowing grass and washing cars.

Special School Memories:

Forming close friendships, hanging out and learning to smoke because it was "cool" (thank the Lord for helping me quit this nasty habit on March 8, 1980), going to ball games, Hamps after school, working at Smith's Drug Store, dating younger girls because girls my age were "too old", Gastonia Boys Club initiation week, and beach trips. Having Mrs. Taylor for senior English and having to learn and recite the first 12 lines of the Canterbury Tales in Old English. More great times than space allows.

Married Linda Alexander from Hayesville, NC, May 1964.
Became a father in Greensboro in September 1968.
Retired from IBM in Raleigh, April 1994.
Became a field hand in Hayesville, NC in September 1994.
Became a grandfather in Birmingham in December 2005.
Became a BOOBs club member in Cullowhee in July 2009. (Burned Out Old Buddies) See below.

That's it... Those are the really important dates in my life so far. More to come I hope.

Sadly, I didn't know Carolyn, but based on her obituary and Scotty's comments, I wish I had. We had a large class, and again sadly, we did get a little cliquish. It seems that she was a wonderful person so that's my loss, not hers. Rest in peace kind lady.

Linda, you were one of the really good ones. It was my pleasure knowing you and my life was bettered by crossing your path. I can't think of thing you ever did that was wrong. I will always love you and your memory.

Moonbeam, we ALL love you. Tish was a special lady, as are every single one of our classmates. Each in their own way. It is especially nice to be your friend as you are older than me and more experienced in the ways of the world.

Hey Moonman, Tish knew you loved her. She loved you too, but it was way too soon for her to make that kind of commitment. I had my own thoughts about Tish, but since I had to date girls two years younger than me to be sorta even with them in maturity, she was way out of my league. It is good to know your limitations.... speaking solely for myownself. It's good that I waited anyhow, cause that freed me up to be with Linda Alexander who stole my heart whilst I was lunching in Brown Cafeteria during my sophmore year at deat old Western Carolina College. Lots of great memories. Lots of fun. a little bit of trouble, but not enough to mention.

Happy birthday a day late as usual and more'n a dollar shirt as usual. I sincerely hope you had a nice relaxing day doing whatever you wished. You are certainly among a very select group of my favorite lady classmates. Say hey to Frank and I'm sorry I couldn't spend a little more time with y'all at our reunion. If we ever have another one, I hopd we will be given more time to mingle and maybe a little less handing our prizes and praying. Praying is a mighty good thing to do so I'm going to pray for more time with friends. As always, I wish you and Frank the very best of everything. I am currently at my quiet place in Hayesville.
